The Rebirth Of The Metzorah

The name of the parsha reflects the essence.  So why is the parsha called Tazria when most of the parsha discusses negaim?  The Gemorah in Sanhedrin 98b cites the opinion of the Rabbis that the name of Moshiach will be חיוורא דבי רבי, the metzorah of the house of Rebbe (Rashi.)  Why is Moshiach called a metzorah?  The Alter Rebbe says that the root of a negah is a tremendous spiritual light.  It can lead to tremendous spiritual benefits.  It is when a person doesn’t have the capability to contain such a great energy of kedusha that it turns into a tumah.   The point of the negah is to arouse the person to repent and now he will be able to harness that great spiritual power of the negah to be used for the positive.  The nega indeed serves as a new-birth.  Just as a new-born has a new potential to be fulfilled, so too the metzorah receives a new spiritual energy that can enable him to become a greater person. That is why it is fitting for the laws of negaim to be encompassed under the title of Tazria.  The nega serves as a spiritual rebirth of the individual.

That is why Moshiach is called a metzorah as well.  In the days of Moshiach the world will become purified and will have the capability to contain the spiritual energy present in a negah (based upon Toras Menachem 5751, Likutay Sichos volume 37 and volume 7.)
