סוד החסידות ושרש העבודה התמימה הוא שיתברר ויתאמת אצל האדם מה חובתו בעולמו ולמה צריך שישים מבטו ומגמתו בכל אשר הוא עמל כל ימי חייו. this is the opening line of the first chapter of the מסילת ישרים. Every religious man struggles to try to identify what his/her path in life should be. Of course, the Torah gives us a general outline, but what about the undefined, gray areas? How can be clear of his/her mission in life?
The Sifsai Tzaddik learns from our parsha an insight into this question. Moshe tells Pharaoh that Klal Yisroel must even take their livestock with them for they won't know what kind of service Hashem will want from them. The lesson is that it is indeed a mystery what you're avodah, what you're path in life is. However, once you start, if you are headed in the right track then Hashem will inform you of the path you should take. You will get סייעתא דשמיא to understand which path of avodah you should choose.
