Double Nechama

What is the nechama of Shabbat Nachamu if we are still in golut?  What is the double nechama of נחמו נחמו?  The Gemarah in Maakot says that the Tanaim told Rebe Akiva עקיבא נחמתנו עקיבא נחמתנו.  Why did they say it twice?  They were comforted not only because they were given a clear vision of how everything would be good in the future but because they saw the present as a means of building as well.  R' Akiva explained that the destruction is part of the rebuilding.  That is the double nechama, for the future and for the present.  That is the double nechama the navi promises.  There is a nechama of a vision of brighter days in the future but there is also the nechama that we are not merely waiting around for the rebuilding but we are participating in the rebuilding through our actions (see here.)

That is the nechama in the golut.  It is not a physical change; it is a state of how to view the events.  After observing the avelut of the beginning of the month and understanding our loss, we are now able to recognize that the loss leads to a greater building.
